City West Housing Trust has completed the first phase of shared ownership homes on the former Salford City Reds’ rugby ground.

The regeneration of The Willows site will eventually see 103 new homes, with 22 properties for sale via shared ownership. A further 81 houses, apartments and bungalows will be available for affordable rent.

Families moved into the first 14 of the shared ownership properties in time for Christmas.

The news comes as City West steps up its plans to deliver 780 much needed new properties on sites across Salford by 2018, as part of its parent group ForViva’s wider plans to build 1,200 properties across the North West.

Nigel Sedman, Director of Investment and Regeneration at ForViva, said: “This is a major milestone for the regeneration of The Willows which is bringing much needed affordable homes to Salford.

“We are delighted to be welcoming our first families and to be able to bring forward a scheme that offers a variety of different housing options for the people of Salford.”

The entire scheme is set to be completed by Summer 2017.

16 families have also moved into new shared ownership properties at City West’s development at Clifford and Green Street in December. The scheme is set to be fully complete by early 2017 with 68 homes and 12 apartments in total for shared ownership and affordable rent.
