Construction starts on final phase of Salford key worker scheme
LPC Living, in partnership with ForViva group member City West Housing Trust and Salford City Council, has begun construction of its final phase of the award winning Radclyffe Park development in Ordsall, close to Salford Quays. The scheme, which comprises a mix of one and two-bedroom apartments and three-bedroom houses overlooks Ordsall Park and will support economic growth, regeneration and meet local housing needs. These homes will be allocated to key workers and those in housing need on the Council’s housing register.
City West has secured funding for the scheme from Homes England, formerly the Homes and Communities Agency, and will take over ownership and management of the development on its completion, which is scheduled for early 2019.
The architect for the development is Trafford Based MPSL Planning and Design, whilst the construction is being carried out by Manchester Based Bridgestone Construction.
Paul Gerrard, Assistant Director of Business Development at ForViva, City West’s parent company, said: “We are delighted to be involved in bringing forward this development of modern homes in Ordsall to provide much needed affordable housing for local people.”
“High quality, sustainable schemes like this can breathe new life into an area and help support communities to thrive.”
Simon Ashdown, of LPC Living commented: “We are delighted to be delivering this scheme in partnership with City West, to deliver affordable homes to rent in the area, all of which will be available at least 20% below market value.”
Councillor Tracy Kelly, Lead Member for Housing and Neighbourhoods at Salford City Council, said:
“Ordsall has now been transformed following support from the council and its partners. We want everyone to share in this success. This scheme, available to local key workers and those on the Council housing register shows our commitment to achieve this. This is really positive for the people of the city.”
City West plans to build a further 785 homes by 2020 on sites across Salford as part of parent group ForViva’s wider plans to build 1,200 properties across the North West.
The landlord recently completed The Willows, an £11 million development of 103 new affordable homes on the site of the former Salford Reds Rugby ground in Weaste, and started work on a £3 million block of 33 apartments on Corporation Road in Eccles in November.
LPC Living is currently working with Salford City Council to bring forward further phases of regeneration to the Ordsall Estate, having already delivered over 670 homes in the area. It anticipates bringing forward several other schemes for development in 2018, including the development of land on Robert Hall Street alongside housing regeneration projects on Ordsall Lane.
